Dental implants are an effective treatment option for individuals with one or more missing teeth. To be successful, dental implants need to have a strong jawbone for support. For patients with thin or brittle jawbone, we may recommend a sinus lift before getting implants.
A sinus lift is a dental surgery that aims to strengthen the upper jawbone in preparation for dental implants. A bone graft is done to reinforce the upper jaw beneath the sinus cavity. The procedure gently lifts the sinus membrane to create room for new bone that will grow from the graft. Once your body has integrated the bone graft material, the upper jaw will have enough strength to support an implant.
Sinus lift surgery can be an option when there is excessive bone loss after a tooth is lost or extracted.
