Teeth Cleaning and Routine Care
Staying proactive is the first step to maintaining exceptional long-term oral health. At Cleveland Smile Center we treat adults and kids! In providing care for the entire family, we encourage parents to bring kids in for Pediatric Dental Care as early as 1 year old.
Coming to the dentist can be a positive and rewarding experience when you know you are taking all the steps to practice preventive care. As holistic dentists, our doctors are dedicated to providing dental care for the many families of Northeast Ohio, Cleveland, Akron, Aurora, Cuyahoga Falls, Bedford / Oakwood and Westlake.
By getting routine dental cleanings and exams along with x-rays, our team can make sure that your oral health is the last thing on your mind when you smile, laugh or eat your favorite foods!
Why You Need Checkups and Cleanings
The food and bacteria in your mouth can leave sticky film deposits on your teeth that turn into plaque and tartar over time. This, in turn, can wear away the protective enamel on your teeth, opening the door to tooth decay. If left untreated, it can also irritate soft tissues and lead to Periodontal (Gum) Disease.
Once a year during your cleaning appointment we also take x-rays of your teeth and bone structures. These x-rays allow our best dentists to help accurately diagnose and prevent many common dental issues. With help from the caring dental professionals at Cleveland Smile Center, you can maintain optimal oral health and enjoy a beautiful smile. Contact our dental offices today at Aurora, Cuyahoga Falls or Westlake to schedule your appointment for cleaning and x-rays.
What to Expect During a Checkup and Cleaning
During regular check-ups, you’ll undergo a standard dental cleaning procedure. This is administered by highly trained dental hygienists using handheld instruments or an ultrasonic scalers to remove any plaque or tartar deposits on your teeth.
Our dental hygienists have the training and tools necessary to clean hard-to-reach areas between your teeth and below the gum line – areas you can’t reach on your own. Once the hygienist is done cleaning your teeth, the dentist will come to check in your mouth – examining the teeth, gums, bones, tongue, and cheeks.
It’s important to express any questions or concerns to your dentist and hygienist so that they can make your visit as comfortable as possible. The dental professionals at Cleveland Smile Center want every patient to have a positive and productive experience, and this starts with communication.
Questions Our Patients Ask
Q: How often should I come in for a cleaning?
A: We recommend coming in every six months for a routine cleaning and checkup. Staying on that schedule helps us catch small issues early and keeps your smile in great shape all year long.
Q: What actually happens during a cleaning appointment?
A: Our dental hygienist will gently remove any plaque or tartar buildup. That includes those hard-to-reach spots between your teeth and below the gumline that regular brushing can’t get to. Then your dentist will do a quick exam to check your teeth, gums, and overall oral health.
Q: Do you take X-rays at every visit?
A: We typically take X-rays once a year during your cleaning appointment. They help our team get a full picture of what’s going on beneath the surface, so we can catch anything that isn’t visible to the naked eye.
Q: My teeth feel a little sensitive — will the cleaning be uncomfortable?
A: Just let us know before we get started! Our hygienists are trained to work gently and will adjust their approach to keep you as comfortable as possible. We want every visit to be a positive experience for you.
Q: Do you see kids for routine cleanings too?
A: Absolutely — we love seeing the whole family! We welcome children starting as early as age one, and we make every effort to create a fun, relaxed environment so that going to the dentist feels like a good thing, not a scary one.
