What is a Partial Denture?
A removable partial denture – or simply known as a “partial” – is an affordable way to replace missing teeth and gaps in your smile. Our partial dentures are:
- Custom-made to fit your teeth and the shape of your jawbone
- Clasp securely to your existing teeth
We use the latest technology to make partials without any metal . These flexible partials have clasps that are tooth and gum colored, making them practically invisible when you smile. The artificial teeth are set in a pink acrylic material that resembles the gums.
It is custom-made to fit your teeth and the shape of your jawbone exactly, and it clasps securely to your existing teeth, but not so tightly that it can’t be removed.
A removable partial denture will protect your remaining teeth from drifting and being damaged, and will give you excellent comfort and function for many years. Keep in mind that the gold standard for tooth replacement is Single and Multi-Tooth Implants.

Tips for using Partial Dentures
Some patients might feel a little discomfort as they are getting used to partial denture or need a little help with ongoing care. Fortunately, you don’t need to sacrifice comfort for a great new smile. Cleveland Smile Center has a few tips to help.
When you first get your new partial denture, your bite may feel a little uncomfortable or awkward; this is 100% normal and will diminish over time as you get accustomed to wearing it.
Your Cleveland Smile Center Team will give you instructions on how to insert and remove your partial denture. Practice makes perfect, and one should always handle their partial with care.
Do not try to get your dentures into place by biting down, as this could result in bending or breaking.
When you’re not wearing them, always carry your partials in a hard case. Keep partials away from kids and pets so not to damage them.

Will people be able to tell I’m wearing a partial denture?
We hear this question a lot. Modern partials are built with tooth-colored and gum-colored clasps to make them blend into your natural smile. Most patients tell us their family and coworkers never noticed anything except that they were smiling more.
Will getting a partial denture hurt?
Getting fitted for a partial denture is not a painful process. It involves impressions and measurements. There isn’t any drilling in the process, so the appointment is much easier than most patients think.
Some patients do need to have a tooth removed, but we cater to cowards, so we will make sure that part of the process is as painless as possible.
Will my partial denture fall out when I’m eating or talking?
We fit our partial to be the exact shape of your teeth and jawbone and they are made with a flexible material. The partial denture will have a clasp that helps it stay securely in place for talking and eating. When you first get a partial, it can feel a bit strange, but you will adjust to it over time. You can also come back in to get your partial denture adjusted by our doctors.
